Bulgarian culture is rich in folklore and traditions surviving since the days of the ancient Thracians, to an era when people both feared and worshiped nature. As pagan and Christian religions collided, many celebrations merged into one. Light Love Rituals will take you on a journey to discover these unique festivals.

Whether you desire to learn a little about ancient Thracian and Slavic origins, or you want to experience rituals practiced throughout the year with a fictitious Bulgarian family, or even if you’re only interested in traditional Bulgarian cuisine, this book has something for everyone.

If you’re interested only in the recipes, they are offered in a separate book: Mediterranean & Bulgarian Cuisine: 12 Easy Traditional Favorites.

About

Why call the book Light Love Rituals?

LIGHT: One of the main characters in rituals and folklore is the sun. In antiquity, people believed that each year the sun died and was born again. Revived, it woke nature in the spring to begin a new cycle of life.

LOVE: The progression of human life mirrors that of nature—birth, death, and rebirth in a different form. Where it differs is that while the sun is essential to the cycle of nature, love is what’s important for human growth. Rituals reflect a family’s love from a child’s birth, to marriage ceremonies, to rites performed to honor the dead. Many rituals are for fertility, protection, health, and fortune.

RITUALS: Everyone incorporates some sort of rituals into their lives. Rituals provide an occasion for families to gather around the table and share a good meal, memories, love, and traditions from generation to generation. Rituals connect the past with the present, and help people embrace and understand their future.
